Short-term storage gives you extra space for as long as you need it. It can be useful when you’re moving home, clearing space or having building work done. Instead of trying to fit everything around you, you can store the belongings you don’t currently need and collect them when you’re ready. It can also give you more time to sort through your possessions properly. You can keep the items that matter without forcing a quick decision simply because you’ve run out of room.

How the 15 days' notice works: tell your store team at least 15 days before the day you want to move out. For example, if you want to be out by 30 November, let us know by 15 November. Your contract then ends once you have emptied the unit.

When do people use temporary storage?
Temporary storage can bridge the gap when dates, space or plans don’t quite line up. A monthly contract gives you the flexibility to store your belongings during a period of change, without committing to a longer storage contract.
-
Moving house: keep furniture safe between moving out and moving in. See our moving house storage page.
-
Renovating: Clear out a room to make renovating faster, whilst protecting your belongings from dust and disruption during decorating.
-
Between homes: Create more room while preparing a property for viewings and the eventual sale, or store while you have a gap between tenancies waiting to move into a new place.
-
Studying: keep your things close to University over the summer instead of carrying them home and back.
-
Decluttering: Storing items while downsizing or deciding what to keep. Making space at home without giving away belongings you still use or value.
All of these are covered by our wider personal storage options.
How much does short-term storage cost?
Short-term storage in Belgium can start from around €24 per month for a small self-storage unit. This type of space may suit a few boxes, seasonal belongings or personal items that you need to store temporarily. Larger units suitable for furniture or the full contents of a home start from higher monthly amounts.
The monthly price depends on the unit size and the store. Check the current price for your size and location, visit our self storage prices page, or get a quote online your chosen store. Depending on the storage provider, you may also need to budget for:
- Protecting your goods: Contents cover or alternative storage insurance is compulsory for many providers that adhere to industry standards designed to keep your belongings safe.
- A padlock: You'll need a compatible lock, available to purchase in store. Customers may be able to use their own padlock, so check with your chosen store if it would be suitable to do so.
Common questions about short term storage
Is temporary storage a good option during a renovation or house move?
Yes. Temporary storage works well when you need your belongings out of the way for a few weeks or months. During a renovation, a storage unit clears the rooms being worked on, keeping your furniture away from dust and damage. During a house move, it covers the gap between leaving your old home and settling into the new one.
Can I rent storage for just one month?
Yes. The minimum rental period is one month. If your plans change, you can stay longer on the same monthly contract, subject to availability. There is no maximum rental period.
How do monthly storage contracts work if I only need a unit for one month?
You reserve a unit and move in. You pay a monthly invoice, and the contract usually renews each month. Give your notice at least 15 days before your move-out date, and you will not be renewed for a second month providing you take all of your belongings on your last day and let us know you've left so we can close the contract.
How much notice do I need to give to end my storage rental in Belgium?
You need to give 15 days' notice. Tell your store team at least 15 days before the day you want to move out, remove your belongings, and your contract ends once you let us know you've vacated your unit.
Do I need insurance for my belongings in temporary storage?
Yes. All items stored at MySafestore must be covered during storage, even for a short stay. While we take every precaution to protect your belongings, events outside our control, such as fire or flood, can cause damage. You can take out StoreProtect - MySafestore's own contents cover - when you sign your contract or at any point during your rental. You can arrange your own storage insurance, providing they meet the same standards as our StoreProtect cover - see our storage insurance page for more information.
