How to choose the right storage unit size

Start smaller and upgrade if needed
It is better to slightly underestimate and move to a larger unit than to pay for space you do not need. Our team at each centre can always help you upgrade if required.
Think vertically
Most MySafestore units have ceiling heights of between 2 and 3 metres depending on the centre. Using shelving and stacking items carefully can help you make the most of the full height of your unit.
Ground floor versus upper floor
Units on the ground floor tend to cost slightly more than those on upper floors. If you do not need regular access to your unit, an upper floor option can be a more cost-effective choice.

Frequently asked questions about storage unit sizes
What is the most popular storage unit size?
The most commonly rented sizes at MySafestore are between 5m² and 12m², which suit most home moves, decluttering projects and small business needs. If you are storing the contents of a one to three-bedroom home, this range is a good starting point.
Can I change my unit size after I move in?
Yes - if you find you need more or less space, speak to your centre team and they will do their best to move you to a different unit, subject to availability at your centre.
How do I know if my belongings will fit?
A good rule of thumb is to think in terms of rooms rather than individual items. A 5m² unit holds roughly the contents of a large one-bedroom flat when stacked efficiently. Our team at each centre can also give you a free assessment before you sign. You can also visit our FAQs for more guidance.
Do you offer units larger than 27m²?
Yes - for bulk storage or warehouse-style requirements, units of 30m² and above are available at selected centres. Call us on 0800 12 680 to discuss your requirements.
What is the minimum rental period?
One month. There is no maximum rental period - you can store your belongings for as long as you need, with flexible monthly billing and no long-term commitment required. Contact us to find out more.
